The Backdoor Men, from Goshen, released their lone 45, a blues-based rave-up, in 1966 on Elkhart label Fujimo Records, “Corrina/Evil”. Not much information is available on the group, but they are still well remembered–in 2020, a band called Ignition, which includes former Backdoor Men members, played a live show in Goshen. The scarce 45 is sought by collectors, and the “Evil” side appeared on the now legendary Hoosier Hotshots Indiana garage compilation LP that was released in the early 1990’s. It also appeared on the Mayhem and Psychosis garage compilation on Laroche Records. Guitarist/vocalist Fred Hostetler went to play with many major acts, including Johnny Winter, The Knack, Graham Parker, Jeff Beck and Rod Stewart. Hostetler was also a member of the 1990’s band Blues By Nature. Fujimo Records was an important northern Indiana label that released at least 12 garage rock 45’s by Indiana bands. |

My Dad Thomas L. O’Hara an my uncle Richard F. O’Hara created the record label. Many bands recorded under that label. The Shades, Tempests, The Dukes, Falcons. Backdoormen and the Swinging stingrays. The address was Lusher Ave Elkhart Indiana which was also the home of Lookwell Dairy.Managing bands were their hobbies.
