The Chevelles released one single in 1967 on Skoop Records, “Just Once In My Life/Things Have Changed”. “Just Once In My Life” is included on Gear Fab’s Psychedelic States – Indiana CD. Despite great interest in the 45, which appears to be Skoop’s last release and is quite rare, there is little written about The Chevelles. Because they recorded on Skoop, they are considered to be from Santa Claus, but that may not be the case. Santa Claus was home to three labels, all owned by Ray Scrivner, the other two being Kasko and Showboat, but probably was not the hometown of most of its roster, given its proximity to both Louisville and Evansville. The Chevelles was a common band name in the 1960’s, so this band is often confused with others, including the Fabulous Chevelles from Cambridge City, Indiana, which released a single in 1962. |
