The Five Dots were formed in 1954 and released two 45’s, as well as one 45 as The Counts (2) on Note Records, probably a deliberate confusion tactic by the band’s manager, Mel Herman also the owner of Note Records and the manager of the other, original Counts (1) in Indianapolis. Adding to the confusion, Five Dots released a 45 on Dot Records, the same label that the Counts (1) recorded on. The Five Dots/Counts made club appearances across Indiana. Jimmy Scruggs recorded soul 45’s into the 1970’s, including a soul-flavored “Indiana Pacers Theme” for the Indiana Pacers basketball team. | |
