Vondells

Hometown: Union City | |
The Vondells were from Union City, home also to The McCoys. They released one 45 in 1968 on Tommy Wills’ Airtown Custom label which is rare and in demand, “Hey Girl, You’ve Changed/Soldier Boy”. “Hey Girl, You’ve Changed” was re-released on one side with a Tommy Wills cut on the other, in 2012. The Airtown Custom label was designed for artists to record and purchase a quantity of pressed records without promotion and distribution. As a result, the record was unknown until the early 1980’s when it was discovered by British northern soul DJ’s and collectors, and its garagey, lo-fi soul sound has remained popular with them. The name “Vondells” was common among bands in the 1960’s, but very little is known about this particular band. |
