The Wild Ones were a high school band from Northside High School in Fort Wayne. They were selected for the Indiana Bandstand tour. The bandstand roster consisted of 10 bands from throughout Indiana, who were selected in a contest held at Kokomo.
During the summer of ‘66 the bands toured Indiana, playing two and three-night stands at various teen clubs and dance halls. This contest was a project of Chicago’s Orlyn Records, who recorded and released The Wild One’s 1966 single, “Tale of a City/#5”. It was via Indiana Bandstand tours that Orlyn found bands worthy of recording in both Indiana and Illinois.
Like most Orlyn releases which were pressed in very small quantities, The Wild Ones’ 45 is quite rare and sought after. “Tales of a City” was included in the Gear Fab label’s CD compilation of Indiana garage bands, entitled Psychedelic States – Indiana in the 60’s Volume 1. Not surprisingly, there were many bands that used the name The Wild Ones, so there is often confusion as to which band is which.
