Young Lords was an active Lafayette area band in the first half of the 1990’s, releasing three albums–a self released cassette, a vinyl LP, and a CD, illustrating the change from vinyl to CD as the 1990’s dawned. The LP was released on major indie label Behemoth, which also issued two albums by Gizmos-related Crawlspace among many others. The band is probably one of the first Indiana bands to feature the alternative/grunge sound popularized by Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and Nirvana. The CD was issued on Augmented Mammary, a label related to Lafayette producer Mass Giorgini and his Sonic Iguana studio. Young Lords appeared on three compilations. Two are of Indiana bands – Children of the Corn and Rock and Roll Superhighway, and the third was a Thin Lizzy tribute CD. Drummer Jeff Lee played guitar with The Living Flies in the mid 1980’s. |
