Axas was a popular Logansport band which was together for several years, playing live frequently. They released a single in 1975 and an LP in 1979, Broken Dreams, both on their label Sum Kinda Music. Both are scarce and sought after. In 2020, Sonic Age Records from Greece issued a deluxe double CD compiling studio and live recordings. Axas’ sound is accomplished guitar oriented classic to heavy rock, with progressive and psych flourishes, with strong vocals. With some luck, they would have been far better known. Rex Crockett was an original member of the Fire-flys (aka Fireflys), which released a scarce 45 on Orlyn Records. The Fire-Flys were from the Walton/Galveston area near Logansport. The second incarnation of the Fire-flys included Holcomb, Carbaugh and Parkevich. At some point, Shank and Myer joined and the band’s new lineup became Axas. |
