The Blue Angels were a frat-rock style garage band from Hammond, forming originally as the Starlighters, but changed names due to the famed Joey and the Starlighters; they got their start as a polka band. They released three singles on Chicago label Cap Records, which was related to Cha Cha Records. They were a popular live act in the area for several years. They also released a 45 billed as Blue Angels with Little Boo on Carnival Records. Changing their name was a good move then, but history has obscured them unexpectedly due to the popularity of the Blue Angels airshow, not to mention the other Blue Angels band which launched Cyndi Lauper. |

I do have “Shake…” on a 45.
Mickie Mac was never a member of the Blue Angels. There are only two of us left. Johnny Puskas and myself.
Kenny Simmons
Kenny, thanks so much for reading our entry and correcting it. We really appreciate your help, it’s how we get this as close to accurate as it can be.
Talked to Mario a few years ago. He is in Beeville Texas. Worked with him in the 70’s. anywhere we went with music he found his way onto the stage. .I remember when I was a boy some of the teenage girls being so excited because the Blue Angels were playing at Andrean High School. Recently saw a poster for an event with Chuck Berry the headliner and at the bottom the Blue Angels!
I didn’t realize Mario passed in 2014. Didn’t realize it was that long ago we spoke. Really sorry to find out. He was a lot of fun.
