Jimmie Dale (Wilcoxson), born in New Albany, is best known for therockabilly song “Baby Doll”, released originally on Jeffersonville label Saber Records in 1958. He worked with a Kentucky artist, Bill Wright, known for his “talking harp”. Wright has writing and arrangement credits on the single. Dale released a total of three singles, with the last one released in 1960. “Baby Doll” was reissued in the UK in 2011. The other two singles were on Louisville label Farrall Records and Louisiana label Drew-Blan. These labels released several records by other artists, but Saber only appears to have released the Jimmie Dale 45. “Baby Doll” has appeared on several rockabilly/early rock compilations. Jimmie Dale is often confused with another rockabilly artist of the same name, Jimmie Dale (Gilmore) from Texas. |
