Gentlemen Bleu consisted of five Hanover College students, and they produced one memorable 45 that was released on Louisville’s Trump label in 1967. The next year, as the band had broken up due mostly to graduation, Al Stone helped start WNAP-FM radio in Indianapolis, among the first FM album rock stations in the US. Stone continued to play in bands until his death in 2020. Musically Gentlemen Bleu are less garagey and more melodic, placing them in the realm of The Association or The Buckinghams. Jangly guitar and smooth, harmonic vocals combine to produce a strong sound that would have been at home on any Top 40 station of the day. |
