The McCoys began in the early 1960’s, releasing a single as Rick and the Raiders in 1963. The McCoys released their debut LP in 1965 on Bang Records, featuring their timeless hit, “Hang On Sloopy”. A total of four LP’s were released during the 1960’s, the latter two on Mercury Records as the band moved from their garage/pop sound to a more psychedelic rock style. There were also quite a number of singles released from the LP’s, but none hit as big as “Hang On Sloopy”. A reunion LP of sorts was released in 1976, Glass Derringer, featuring McCoys members and Dick Glass. Rick Derringer is one of the best known Indiana rock figures, with a long solo career, and leader of the band DNA. The Derringer brothers and Randy Hobbs also played with Johnny Winter immediately following the demise of the band in the early 1970’s; Rick Derringer and Hobbs were members of Edgar Winter’s band for a time. |
