Hometown: Noblesville (Steve Wariner), album probably recorded in the Nashville, TN area with area musicians | |
Steve Wariner was born in Noblesville; spent some time in Kentucky as a youth, but ended up back in the Indianapolis area early in his music career. At the age of 17, in 1971 he joined Dottie West’s band as the bass player and in 1977, signed to RCA as a solo artist. Also in 1977 the Stones River Band LP was privately released, without a label name. Stones River is a major river in Tennessee, so it’s likely that it was recorded and released in the Nashville area, and named for the river. Possibly this LP was a demo intended to get a recording contract; if so, it was successful. Wariner has had a storied career as a band leader and songwriter, releasing 19 albums so far. This album is probably his first recording as a band leader. Although collectors are aware of Stones River Band and the record’s existence, it is not mentioned on Steve Wariner’s website, nor does YouTube have any tracks, and there are no articles that could be found. The album is scarce, but copies are readily available online at a relatively low price for a private pressing of such note. |
