Whole Wheat, from Terre Haute, was active in the mid to late 1970’s, playing live frequently in central Indiana and Terre Haute. They released one album that was recorded in Minneapolis and released on Uptown Records as a result of connecting with a promoter there. For this reason some categorize them incorrectly as being from Minnesota. The album is well regarded by those familiar with it–it’s a pleasant mélange of folk rock with progressive and psych directions. Hank Roberts, a Terre Haute native who later became a significant jazz musician in New York, contributed cello to one track. Drummer Chris Pyle later became the drummer for the long running power pop band The Late Show. |
