Why On Earth was formed in Indianapolis in 1978, releasing a cassette, a 7″ single, a 12″ EP and a full length vinyl LP in the early 1980’s. The last record was issued in 1985, but the band kept going, with multiple lineup changes. Why on Earth played live frequently and toured in several states during the 1980’s, their melodic, hard rock sound proving popular. Jason Stonewall, Dwayne Kendall and Jo Jo Weekend left to form Stonewall Weekend, with new members replacing them in Why On Earth. The band continued to play live into the early 2000’s.

Remember seeing this band in early to mid 80s in Richmond, KY at place called The Family Dog. Great times!
A precursor to Why On Earth was the band Stonewall, founded by North Central High School graduate (’72) Jason (Seidler) Stonewall. They recorded their first demo of eight original songs in the autumn of 1972 at 700 West with the late great producer Moe Whittemore. The band at that time included future Why On Earth drummer Rick Long (Broad Ripple) in addition to Lance Hamilton (Park Tudor) on bass and Kevin Endsley (Brebeuf) on vocals. Their biggest gig was opening for Faith Band at the New Castle Armory in 1972 for an estimated crowd of 1,500.
