Ice, from Indianapolis, recorded an album in Chicago in 1970 that lay unreleased for decades. In 1972, at the end of the band’s run, a single by Zukus was released to little fanfare. Collectors have appreciated it for a while but not much was known about the band. Enter Riding Easy Records, a label specializing in lesser known rock releases from the 1970’s, highlighted on their Brown Acid compilation series. Volume 9 featured “Running High” from the Zukus single, and in the process of licensing and researching the song, Riding Easy learned of the unreleased album. It was released in 2020 via the band’s original name, Ice, and under the title Ice Age. It is still unclear what happened to prompt the release of the single in 1972 under a different band name. According to the Riding Easy bio, Ice performed live frequently, opening for Three Dog Night, SRC, Kenny Rogers and the First Edition, and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. |
