Crafty Hands was formed in Portage by two members of Yezda Urfa, which recorded two albums in the mid 1970’s, but broke up due to lack of commercial success. After that, the members scattered, but in 1981, Mark Tippins and Phil Kimbrough decided to start a new band, Crafty Hands, named after the prog band Happy The Man’s second LP. A third former Yezda member, Rich Rodenbaugh, joined in on the recording on vocals. Crafty Hands is less prog-rock than Yezda Urfa, but still has a prog feel albeit with a more commercial flavor. It does not appear that the band continued much after the release of the LP on its own label, Danger Dog Records. Danger Dog later released a CD of a live Yezda Urfa performance (2004) but those are the only two releases. |
