Hometown: Clear Creek | |
Gnawbone released one LP in 1980 on Midwest Coast Records, distributed by Bloomington’s Redbud Records. The LP was recorded at Homegrown Studios in Bloomington and veers between traditional and electrified folk, with a few tunes having a mild psychedelic flavor. We’re guessing on their hometown, as the label address is Clear Creek, but as the band was named for the Brown County village of Gnaw Bone, they may have been centered there or in nearby Nashville. Dulcimer player Fred Meyer released two albums on Midwest Coast, one in 1978 and one in 1983. Including the Gnawbone release, that seems to be the entire discography of that label. Doug Berch continued his musical career with two solo releases on Kicking Mule Records during the 1980’s. With the emergence of metal band Gnaw Bone from Bloomington in the mid 2010’s, the two bands may be momentarily confused for one another. |
