Latex Novelties are considered the first Indianapolis punk band, forming in 1978. Their lineup shifted over time to the point that there were three versions of the band, with the first two most active between 1978-1982, but reassembling frequently. In 2006 Justin Sider of the Slurs joined on lead vocals with members from the second version. The first version’s breakup yielded the Jetsons in 1980. Brothers Peter Pills and Mo Geek died young of congenital heart disease. The Novelties released a 7″ single, which may have come out early than Discogs indicates in1984, on their Creepytunes Records. An LP compilation, “A Girl’s Best Friend” was issued on Rave Up Records in 2008, with a similarly titled CD released by Pelado Records in 2007. Members of the Latex Novelties have been involved in many other bands, including the Jetsons (Ferguson and Mo Geek), Rastabilly Rebels (Ferguson), Vibrato Fetish (Ferguson and Knox) Toxic Reasons, Zero Boys, Bigger than Elvis, and The Last Four (Clough). |
