Hometown: South Bend/Pekin Illinois | |
Chuck and Mary Perrin began in their home town of Pekin, Illinois and continued in South Bend as Chuck matriculated to Notre Dame. The brother and sister duo recorded three highly regarded LP’s, beginning with 1968’s Brother and Sister, with their sound characterized as folk-psych. That, and the 1969 follow up, Next of Kin, were released on their Webster’s Last Word label. Next of Kin included assistance from First Friday members Norman Zeller and Andy Wallace. The third LP, Life is a Stream, was released on the Sunlight label, which was associated most closely with the New Colony Six. Prior to these records, Chuck Perrin sang lead vocals for South Bend garage band The Shaggs. Chuck Perrin has continued on recording and releasing music, much more can be learned on his website. Mary Perrin embarked on a solo singing career herself as “Mary T”. Mary Perrin died in 2003. The Korean label Beatball has reissued all three records; originals of the first two are quite scarce. |

Saw them regularly at Webster’s Last Word in Pekin. They lived down from the street of one of my friends. We used to walk over and watch them practice in the garage
